February 12, 2014
Well, I'm on really early this week. We are here in the temple of
Guatemala (in the Familiy History Center). Left dark and early to arrive on
time, but that's perfectly fine with me if the end result means getting to be in
the temple.
This week was a little bit rough but also really wonderful. First the
downers: We have a weekly goal to have members of the church help us in our
lessons. We want at least 16. This week we had 6!! Almost none of our plans
went as planned so we had such a low number. For this I felt really awful and
stressed this week.
Great things this week are that we were able to see Byron baptized after
having investigated the church for 3 years (at least). During his baptism he
received a strong testimony that what he did was a part of the true church of
Christ. He was almost in tears, expressing these feelings to us. As a note, he
is not generally a very emotional man. Practical is a more suitable word. I've
said it before, but I'll say it again. I love how the gospel of Christ can make
the most hardened man cry with emotion. There are things more powerful than a
man's character.
Other great things, Eleonora and Mario are going to be baptized! We have
moved their baptism date from the 15th to the 22nd because she has a doctor's
exam this Friday and doesn't want to be sick Saturday for her baptism.
Understandable. I'm just hoping and praying I don't get transfered this next
week (I'll know this Sunday). I love this family SO much. I don't want to miss
them getting baptized. I know it's going to be such a special experience for
them.
We had a Trainers Meeting and Interviews with the President this week.
Those were both very good and I think helped me to feel much more at peace with
some things with my companion. Most of this week we have been working really
well together. And have been enjoying our time together a lot lately. She has
been teaching me a lot about patience. She has much more of this trait than I
do.
Ah si, also, we're preparing to sing a duet (an Elder and I) for when one of
the Seventy, Elder Ochoa, is going to visit us. What a blessing! I had no idea
it was for a conference with a Seventy when Hermana Stay asked me to sing
something for a Multi-Zone Conference. We've been practicing and it sounds
really great! We have a pianist and a violinist playing with us too.
We found a woman who I think really needs the gospel, she didn't want us to
leave when we taught her, but when we passed by a few days later, she ran and
hid. A member told us that it might be because her husband is a gangster or
something. Poor thing. I don't think we'll be going back though.
Not too much else to report. Oh, right...I think we're going to the Zoo
today! That should be fun! How is it that our Day of Rest never is very
restful? As one of my friends (probably several) says, I can rest when I'm
dead. Or at least after the mission. ,)
I have to go! Love you all and take care!
